A large-scale free health and dental camp was jointly organized by “Contribution for Nation” and Om Samaj Dental Hospital
As an example of how effective services can be provided at the community level through collaboration between Kathmandu Rajan Thapa Educational Institution and social leadership, a large-scale free health and dental camp was jointly organized by “Contribution for Nation” and Om Samaj Dental Hospital. The camp was conducted with the technical support of Om Samaj Dental Hospital, Himal Hospital and Kirtipur Eye Hospital.
The camp was organized at the Silver Mountain College (Hotel Management) premises in Lainchaur, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26 with the main slogan “Primary Care is Our Concern”. More than 600 service recipients have received free health services from the camp organized with the aim of providing health services at the community level. The program, which was conducted from 12 noon to 4 pm, saw significant participation from local residents.
Silver Mountain College’s Social Commitment
The organizers have stated that Silver Mountain College, which is the venue for the camp, is not only an educational institution but also an active organization towards social responsibility. The founder and president of the college, Sameer Thapa, is a philanthropist himself and has been promoting education and social service together. According to him, Silver Mountain College has been in operation since 2002 and has been setting quality standards in hotel and hospitality management education.
Silver Mountain College, which is about to complete its 25-year journey in 2026, is known as the first private college in Nepal to start hotel management education by affiliation with a foreign university. The college has been running the International Hospitality and Tourism Management Bachelor’s Program in affiliation with the 150-year-old prestigious Queen Margaret University, UK. It is also the first college in Nepal to offer a four-year International Culinary Arts Bachelor’s Degree.
The college has emphasized on the development of students’ skills, practical knowledge, career advancement and social awareness, not limiting education to the classroom. In line with this vision, Silver Mountain College has been regularly collaborating in health camps, social campaigns and humanitarian services.
Social Service under the leadership of Sharmila Thapa
The main coordination of the program “Contribution for the Nation” was carried out under the leadership of Sharmila Thapa, the Chairperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Committee. Sharmila Thapa, who is active in social service, said that such free camps are very necessary for the health security of the citizens.
She said, “A program that directly benefits citizens at the local level is an effective social service. We believe that no one should be deprived of treatment due to financial status or access.”
Under the active participation of Sharmila Thapa, the Kathmandu Metropolitan Committee has been continuously organizing programs in the fields of health, education and humanitarian services. According to participants, under her leadership, the committee has been giving priority to programs that directly connect with the community.
Health Services and Medical Contribution
The service recipients participating in the camp received free general health check-ups, dental check-ups, initial eye check-ups, blood pressure and diabetes (sugar) checks, and necessary medical consultation services. The organizer stated that service recipients who showed serious problems during the initial check-ups were recommended to the relevant health institution for further treatment.
For dental health services, Dr. Pooja Thapa and Dr. Diksha Chaudhary of Om Samaj Dental Hospital provided examination and consultation services for teeth, gums, and mouth-related problems. Dental assistant Sabita Niraula facilitated the service recipients in the treatment process.
For general health check-ups, a medical team consisting of Dr. Anuj Kumar Singh, Dr. Shrishti Subba Rai, and Dr. Nitin Gyawali from Himal Hospital provided services. For eye check-ups, a team of Durga Devi Shrestha, Renu Chaudhary, and Navin Upadhyay from Kirtipur Eye Hospital provided services.
